In 1989 Country stars The Oak Ridge Boys, Crystal Gayle, Moe Bandy, Steve Wariner, Lee Greenwood, Randy Travis and Loretta Lynn perform at President George Bush's Inauguration. In 1973, Jerry Lee Lewis appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and broke the two rules: no swearing and no rock n' roll.

On this day (January 10th) in 1981 Merle Haggard hits the top of the charts with the song "I Think I'll Just Stay Here And Drink." Merle penned the song one evening after a friend asked him to come over to his house for the evening, and Merle's reply was "no thanks, I think I'll just stay here and drink."
